The Red-tailed Hawk family has succeed in having two eyas. Very hard to see them but I can hear them and see them flapping around high in the nest.

New Toy - Tim Horton's Cup July 3, 2010

What a great day - Peter, Bernie and Florence came to the nest and enjoyed watching the antics of the juvenile hawks. The last thing we saw was the hawk picking up a Tim Hortons cup, throwing the cup and trying to catch it. Again learning new hunting skills.
Not great shots but just have to post them.

again...amazing. it's one thing to catch a photo or two of a juvenile red-tailed, but another thing entirely to be able to document its behavior. this cup tossing is priceless! i love it!
and i love the shots where you caught him running around in the bushes, eating everything, then plopping down on the wall and panting. too cool!
on a side note, i finally got some shots of a juvenile red-tailed close to where i live, though he was either perched or flying — no fascinating behavior to capture. but i heard a call that i hadn't heard before — didn't see anything — but guessed it was a red-tailed. (red-shouldered was my runner-up.) this is why i was googling juvie red-tailed sounds (and consequently ended up here).
but today the mystery was solved. i heard the sound again, looked around, and there he was, perched on the top of a dead tree.
sorry...i tend to get wordy. i'm done now, and eagerly awaiting the next update.
